WINDOW SHADE SYSTEMS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1   SECTION INCLUDES

        A.  Manually-operated window shades and accessories for sun/glare/heat control and room darkening.

       B.  Motorized window shades and accessories for sun/glare/heat control and room darkening.


1.2    SUBMITTALS

       A.  Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

       B.  Samples for Selection:  Manufacturer's color chart or sample set.

       C.  Product Data:  Manufacturer's catalog data, product descriptions, installation instructions, detail sheets, and specifications for each type system specified.

        D.  Shop Drawings:  Prepared specifically for this project; show dimensions and interface with other products.

1.  Room schedule including field-verified dimensions of each opening to receive window shade systems.
2.  Indicate System Series, operator, fabric selection, and mounting type.
             3.  Indicate control type.
4.  Wiring diagrams.

1.3    QUALITY ASSURANCE

       Installer:  Manufacturer or installer approved by manufacturer.

1.4    DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

       A.  Deliver products to jobsite in manufacturer's original cartons.

       B.  Individually package and mark shades with room number and opening number.

       C.  Inspect the materials upon delivery to assure that specified products have been received.

D.  Store and handle shades to prevent damage to fabrics, finishes, and
 operators prior to installation.


PART 2    PRODUCTS

2.1    MANUFACTURERS

       B.  Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

       C.  Substitutions:   Not permitted.

       D.  Provide all window shade systems from a single manufacturer.


2.2    MANUFACTURED UNITS

       A.  System 200, series 210, 211, and 212 Manual Shades.  (Choose one according to the size and type of windows being covered)

or,

       B.  System 200, series 285 Motorized Shades.

       C.  System 300, series 305, 320, 360, 375 Skylight and Atrium Shades.

      D.  System 800, Entry deterrent screens.

       (Please contact manufacturer for additional specifications on these systems)


2.3    EQUIPMENT (choose one option)

       A.  Spring Roller Operation:  Institutional quality steel construction, size as needed, 1-1/4 inch (31.8 mm) diameter minimum, with heavy duty torsion spring.

or,

       B.  Bead/Chain Operation:  Bi-directional, wrap spring clutch made of high-strength fiberglass-reinforced polyester and high carbon steel.  Continuous loop, certified No. 10 metal bead chain in appropriate length.


       C.  Motor Operation:  Somfy roller motor, size 500 series or better, 4-wire, instantly reversible, adjustable limit switches, thermal overload protector, and electric brake.  Torque Limiter with self-adjusting shut-off.


2.4    FABRICS (choose one option)

       A.  Style 3000:  PVC coated fiberglass and polyester weave, 14 percent open; 14.6 ounces per square yard (495 g/square m), 0.027 inch (0.69 mm) thick; meet or exceed California flame tests.

       B.  Style 2000:  PVC coated fiberglass and polyester weave, 5 percent open; 14.26 ounces per square yard (484 g/square m), 0.019 inch (0.48 mm) thick; meet or exceed California flame tests.

       C.  Style 4000:  PVC coated fiberglass and polyester weave, 5 percent open; 19.2 ounces per square yard (651 g/square m), 0.036 inch (0.91 mm) thick; meet or exceed California flame tests.

       F.  Blackout:  Spinnaker 4-ply, 12 mil (0.305 mm) laminated fiberglass room darkening fabric; washable, flame retardant, white color outside.

2.5    COMPONENTS (choose one option from A,B,C or D)

       A.  Rollers:  2-1/2 inches (63.5 mm) diameter by 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) wall, 20 gage steel; roller assembly easily removable.

       B.  Rollers: (Standard) 2 inches (50.8 mm) diameter by 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) wall; roller assembly easily removable.

1.  Material:  20 gage steel, or,
             2.  Material:  Extruded aluminum.

       C.  Rollers:  1-1/2 inches (38.1 mm) diameter by 0.049 inch (1.24 mm) wall; roller assembly easily removable.

F.  Roller Idler Assembly:  Clutch operated rollers incorporating high-strength fiberglass-reinforced polyester gudgeon, which snaps-locks into mounting bracket.

       G.  Roller Idler Assembly:  Spring-loaded pin for ease of installation; nylon ball, self-aligning bearing.

       H.  Intermediate Roller Couplers:  Turned from 6063-T5 aluminum, 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) wall.

       I.  Intermediate Brackets:  UHMW plastic twist-locks into carrier bracket, allowing continuous roller operation with multiple shades.

       J.  Motor Coupler:  Machined from solid aluminum 6063-T5 stock, sized to roller, half-lapped and double bolted at each motor to allow ease of installation and service of motor.

       K.  Draw Bar:  Custom extruded of 6063-T5 aluminum, 1-1/2 inches (38.1 mm) wide by length, electrostatically coated; include provision for weight, if needed.

       L.  Top Roller Box and End Caps:  Four-sided interlocking box and cover custom-extruded of 6063-T5 aluminum, 0.062 inch (1.57 mm) minimum wall; electrostatic finish.
             1.  Size:  3 inches (76 mm).  (use with 210 Series only)
2.  Size:  4 inches (102 mm).  (Standard)
3.  Size:  5 inches (127 mm).
4.  End Caps:  16 gage steel, electrostatic finish, incorporating mounting brackets.

       N.  Built-In Boxes:  Fiberboard, sized as required for system, ready to accept ceiling cross-tees.  (Optional)



PART 3   EXECUTION


3.1    INSTALLATION

       A.  Install window shade systems in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and these specifications.

       B.  Assume responsibility for all field dimensions and mounting surfaces.

       C.  Adjust window shade systems for proper operation.
